Oceanside Medical Marijuana Collective Allowed To Stay Open

How To Open A Dispensary

VISTA, CA – On Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in a courtroom filled with supporters of safe access, Judge Maas, denied the City of Oceanside’s attempt to obtain a temporary restraining order to shut down North County Collective (NCC), a legal medical marijuana dispensary located in Oceanside, CA.

Several weeks ago, when the Oceanside City Attorney’s Office began their eradication effort by sending threatening letters to NCC, demanding they shut down, the collective immediately opened a channel of communication with the city and in good faith, began discussions regarding possible relocation as well as other options.

During these discussions the city presented John, a director of the collective with a single option; sign a letter stating that he would immediately shut down the collective, leave Oceanside, and declare in writing that for the rest of his life he would never conduct business within the City. The letter amounted to a clear and direct attempt to violate his constitutional rights.

Shop owner: Marijuana dispensary is bad for business

How To Open A Dispensary

HESPERIA • Wednesday morning’s armed robbery of a Hesperia medicinal marijuana dispensary wasn’t completely unexpected, according to one nearby business owner.
In fact, said Frank DeLeone, who owns nearby Excessive Force Paintball, the dispensary has been the victim of other thefts since it opened a month or so ago.
The dispensary also has attracted a number of people who hang out in front of the dispensary, which isn’t good for business, he said.
“It doesn’t look good with people loitering around the store all day long.”
The number of people milling around is highest on weekend nights. DeLeone estimates that as many as 40 people hang out in front of the dispensary on Fridays.

Burnaby medical marijuana shop raided by RCMP

How To Open A Dispensary

A medical marijuana dispensary was raided by the RCMP in Burnaby yesterday, the latest in a string of crackdowns against B.C. pot distributors this summer.
Federal police agents made three arrests and seized marijuana, patient files, personal computers, and business documents during yesterday's noon-hour raid of Metrotown Medical Marijuana Dispensary.
The dispensary opened last April, The Tyee reported at the time. It is Burnaby's sole medical marijuana distributor.
While officials from both the RCMP and Health Canada maintain that medical marijuana dispensaries are illegal in Canada, medical marijuana advocates says such raids violate previous court rulings and are unconstitutional.
The three suspects apprehended during yesterday's raid were arrested on possible charges of drug trafficking, possession of an illegal substance with intent to traffic, and other related violations. Two of those arrested are said to have arrived at the dispensary in the middle of the raid. All three were subsequently released on a Promise to Appear arrangement.
"It is a violation of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to dispense marijuana," says Corporal Rick Skolrood, a media relations official for the Burnaby detachment of the RCMP. Accordingly, there are only two legal ways to obtain medical marijuana in Canada: "You get it from Health Canada or you get a license to produce it yourself."
